Kaleb and Liska - January 2012

In these hot summer months, Kaleb adores to spend time in his waterhole and soaking up the cool water. Every time we visit them he comes out of and is so wet that more than one visitor has been getting a shower when Kaleb comes close to the fence...

Back in November a wild tortoise walked into the camp. Kaleb and Liska started playing with it and chucking it around as if it was a football. We were quite worried that the tortoise would not make it but luckily, after while of playing around with it, they lost interest. Two coordinators were then able to go into the camp with sticks and keep the wild dogs away, while a third person was able to get close to the tortoise and save it!

Our research team has been busy continuing to work on our efforts of saving the wild dog species in Namibia. Back in October we held a workshop with wild dog experts from all over the world. The findings of the workshop have now been written up by our head researcher Flo and submitted to the Ministry of Environment to be reviewed.
